The Amazing Inability of Cheney to Tell the Truth
One thing that's been consistent throughout the Bush Administration has been Vice President Cheney's ability to continue to repeat statements that he knows are false, in order to defend the Administration by confusing the American public. Put simply, he'll say anything to score political points, regardless of the facts.
His continued statements about a link between Iraq and September 11, 2001 is one great example. Another is his stubborn insistence that Iraq was trying to get uranium from Niger, even though the CIA and others were telling him it wasn't true. A smaller example was his fib during the VP Debate last year that he had never met Edwards before that night, when they had been caught on video at several events over the past four years.
And now we've got another whopper from him on the NSA spying program. Here's Cheney's statement:
Vice President Cheney took a jab yesterday at Republican senators who have
questioned the NSA program, asserting on PBS's "NewsHour" that the eight
congressional leaders who were briefed on the program agreed with it. "That's
the reaction that's important, not the one that comes after it becomes a
political issue and people are trying to score political points," he said.
Hmm. Let's look at the handwritten letter that Senator Rockefeller sent to Tricky Dick expressing his concerns over the program back in 2003. Does it sound like he agreed with the program at the time he was briefed on it?
When you've got the facts, you argue the facts. When you've got the law, argue the law. When you've got neither, as is often the case with this Administration, you just lie like crazy. And know that people like Fox News will have your back.
