Remember this?

Are we better off then we were four years ago?

But instead of seizing this moment, the Clinton-Gore administration has squandered it. We have seen a steady erosion of American power and an unsteady exercise of American influence. Our military is low on parts, pay and morale. If called on by the commander-in-chief today, two entire divisions of the Army would have to report, "Not ready for duty, sir."

-George W. Bush, Acceptance Speech at Republican National Convention, August 3, 2000

What the 101st is going through is a microcosm of what lies ahead for the entire Army. Iraq is its biggest test since Vietnam, and the rigors of fighting a counterinsurgency have demolished much of the Army's equipment and allowed its soldiers' skills to atrophy. For the first time, three Army divisions — more than a third of its combat troops — are classified as unfit to fight.

--L.A. Times, May 15, 2004

Of course, as Al Franken showed in his latest book, Bush's statement was false, as Richard Armitage admitted to Senator Levin in 2000:

Senator Levin: I want to go back to the two divisions not being ready for duty because Mr. Armitage as not answered that. Are those two divisions ready for duty or aren't they?

Richard Armitage, Bush foreign policy adviser: I believe those two divisions, Senator, are ready for duty.

Lying is Like Breathing

Simply incapable of telling the truth. Here's my favorite latest lie by the Bush Administration --

Yesterday, following Bush's accident on his bike, the official statement was as follows;

*"It's been raining a lot and the topsoil is loose," * the spokesman said. "You know this president. He likes to go all out. Suffice it to say he wasn't whistling show tunes."

Oh, really?????
I invite everyone to go to www.weather.com, and type in the forecast for zip code 76638 (Crawford Texas). Click on "Yesterday" and notice that they had zero rainfall yeasterday. Then check May 21. Then check May 20, May 19, May 18, May 17 and May 16.

Zero precipitation, zero rainfall for a week straight. It's also been in the 80s and 90s most of the week.

Now, you wanna try that again, White House?

It's astonishing to me the lengths that these people will go to try to protect the (false) image they've created of Bush. Remember, he was going to "restore honesty and integrity to the Oval Office." Just ask Chalabi...
