Somebody Must Be Watching the Dukes of Hazzard at Camp David

Through November, Bush had issued the fewest pardons by any president in 60 years. Perhaps he's been saving him for all of his associates and fellow Republicans about to face indictment.

But on December 20, Bush issued 11 more pardons. Oddly, 2 of the 11 were for convicted moonshiners. Wonder why supposed recovering-alcoholic Bush suddenly felt such sympathy for moonshiners?

Maybe he thought they were just some good ol' boys, never meaning no harm?

Culture of Corruption

For a good overview into the entire seamy underworld ruled by Jack Abramoff, I recommend today's Washington Post article about his past activities. It's really stunning to read what he did. The e-mails he sent are even more stunning -- you can read some of them here.

And just in time for 2006, here's a paragraph that should give Republicans pause:

Alan K. Simpson (R), the former Wyoming senator who was in Washington during the last big congressional scandal -- the Abscam FBI sting in the late 1970s and
early 1980s, in which six House members and one senator were convicted -- said
the Abramoff case looks bigger. Simpson said he recently rode in a plane with
one of Abramoff's attorneys, who told him: "There are going to be guys in your
former line of work who are going to be taken down."

This is why the Democrats are gonna keep repeating their "culture of corruption" theme until November 2006.

Narnia

For some reason, this has cracked me up all weekend -- the Chronicles of Narnia rap from SNL. Enjoy.

And the Magnolia Bakery does have great cupcakes.

UPDATE: NBC has made YouTube take down the link -- damn lawyers. Here's a link on NBC's site.
