I just can't take the f*^@ing lies and misleading statements made by this administration -- Ari Fleischer was quoted yesterday as saying, in revealing that the President has rejected the Democrat's proposal to have some consultation before the President nominates any Supreme Court Justice, that the Democrats' proposal was a "novel new approach to how the Constitution guides the appointment process... We always welcome thoughts, but certainly no one wants to suggest that the Constitution be altered," Fleischer told reporters."
Uh, Ari: the Constitution says that the President shall have the power, "by and with the advice and consent of the Senate" to appoint Justices of the Supreme Court. The Bush Administration seems to be focused on the "consent" part, but not the "advice" part. And I thought they were strict constructionists. It's well know that Orrin Hatch in 1993 and 1994 recommended to President Clinton that he nominate Justices Ginsburg and Breyer instead of Secretary Babbitt, whom Clinton was considering. And Hatch, like the Democrats today, was in the minority party.
When will our press snap out of it and serve a role in democracy?
